Pet parenting is not an easy job. Pets don’t just need care, food and shelter but also a hygienic home. Maintaining a clean home with pets needs consistent efforts by pet owners. However, with the right approach, it can be entirely manageable and less chaotic. Here are a few tips to maintain hygiene in homes with pets.
Establish a routine – A regular cleaning session which includes vacuuming the rugs, floors and furniture weekly twice is a must if the pets shed lot of fur or bring in dirt from the outside. Vacuum cleaners with HEPA filters can also trap allergens. Floors can be mopped weekly to remove grime and paw prints.
Controlling shedding – Brush the pets on a daily basis which helps reduce shedding. Use pet supplies and grooming tools that best suit their coat type. Frequent brushing reduces hairballs and keeps it off from clothes and furniture. Pet hair removers and lint rollers can help with quick cleanups.
Manage odors – Cat litter boxes must be cleaned everyday and dog waste from be scooped from dog areas or yard immediately. Pet bedding and blankets must be washed weekly along with soft toys using pet-safe cleaning solutions. Air purifiers may be placed in common areas to reduce airborne allergens and reduce smell.
Protect flooring and furniture – Place mats near entrance areas and rugs at the seating area. Washable covers are best for chairs and sofas. They can prevent stains on orginal fabric. Trim the pet’s nails frequently to avoid scratches on hardwood floors.
Organize pet supplies – Have designated areas for pet supplies that include grooming tools, toys, pet food and leashes. Food must be stored in sealed containers for hygienic purposes and to prevent pests. Clean toys regularly, sort them and discard dirty or damaged ones.
All of this works only if the pets are provided with behavioral training. By combining it with a routine, one can maintain comfortable and tidy homes for the furry friends.
